These are quotes you’ll find on the walls at a new establishments that are calling Downtown Fargo home, and we can’t say we disagree with either pieces of advice. Fargo’s got a sweet tooth, and there are a bunch of new ways to satisfy it. Old and new, we explored various downtown spots to get your sweet treat fix. (Sorry in advance to our dentists.)
Scoop N Dough Candy Co.
Located in the heart of the shops at the new Roberts Commons alleyway, Scoop N Dough offers a variety of confectionaries for sugar cravings of all levels. Ice cream and sorbet are served up in generous helpings, along with the ever-popular scoops of cookie dough (which also has vegan options.) You can also try milkshakes, ice cream floats, fresh popcorn, sodas, coffees and pick treats from a wall lined with jars of various candies and lollipops. What will you try first?
The Silver Lining Creamery
Also new to downtown Fargo, this South Dakota transplant has been serving up decadent handmade ice cream flavors nonstop to the families of Fargo. With both sweet and savory flavors, there’s a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy. With flavors such as lavender honey and sage to cheesecake and birthday cake, you’re actually bound to try something new each time you visit thanks to a menu that rotates every two weeks. You can also try cake shakes, “storms” (similar to a Blizzard), flights of ice cream, ice cream sandwiches and cookies along with a handful of nondairy options.
As if it couldn’t get any better, there’s plenty of ice cream to take home. And we’re not talking about a melting cone while you’re driving home, we’re talking about gallons, quarts, pints, mason jar sundaes and even ice cream treats for pups.
Tea&Crepe
If you haven’t seen this style of ice cream-making somewhere on the internet in the last few years, then you’ve seriously been missing out on this oddly-satisfying and tasty phenomenon. Fargo’s new Thai ice cream roll shop serves up ice cream by pouring a liquid cream mixture onto a cold, metal plate. As it freezes, items such as fruit, candy and nuts are mixed in and rolled right into your bowl.
The shop also serves bubble tea, a popular Taiwanese beverage, along with crepes, frozen yogurts, smoothies and iced teas.
Nichole’s Fine Pastry
With so many new places hitting Downtown Fargo all at once, we can’t forget about the classics. Nichole’s Fine Pastry has been the leader of sweets in the city for many, many years. Your heart will melt upon entry when you see the glass cabinets lined with cakes, cookies, chocolates and all of the desserts your heart could desire. Around the corner, you’ll even find a gelato case and flavors that pack some serious flavor.
Don’t forget that Nichole’s offers speciality lunches and dinners that you can enjoy beer, wine or coffee with. And the best part about everything at this quaint little shop? Many of the ingredients and menu items, whether it’s sweet or savory, are locally-sourced.
Yeobo Sweet Shop
A wall of candy? Yes please. This hidden gem in the back of Unglued Market is a sight for our sore, sugar-filled eyes. With 60 bins of various gummies to choose from at only 67¢ an ounce, there’s no reason you shouldn’t have a bag of Yeobo’s gummies on you at all times. You know, because you never know when you’ll need a little sugar kick in your day. Just don’t get to the point where you’re pulling them bare out of your pockets, although we won’t judge if you do. Pro tip: since there are so many gummy styles and colors to choose from, these make great party favors or gifts!
