We’re excited to share with you that Everest Tikka House, a Nepalese and Indian eatery located in the Moorhead Center Mall, is opening a lunchtime café in the lower level of the Black Building at 118 Broadway. They will still offer their full buffet from their home in the Moorhead Center Mall.
The new spot will be called Everest Café, and while the menu might not include all 50+ of the parent restaurant’s dishes, visitors won’t be disappointed by its delicious and healthy options.
Manager Saru Pokharel says that the menu will include crowd favorites like pakoras (gluten free, deep fried mixed vegetables), samosas (meat- and potato-filled pastries), beverages like chai tea and mango lassi, and a variety of rice-based platters similar to those they currently offer at the Red River Market. The star of the show, though, may be their hand-made momos.
Momos are steamed dumplings filled with vegetables, chicken, pork or beef. They originate from South Asia, and have become popular throughout the United States and beyond. Restaurants solely dedicated to momos have flourished in cities across the country, and the dish is one of the most popular street foods in Nepal.
Pokharel says she is excited to make the item a focal point of Everest Café’s menu. “Dumplings actually are our street food back home. They’re everywhere. And so we’re trying to bring a little bit of that [to downtown.]”
When asked why she and her partner, Nabin Dangi, chose to expand to downtown Fargo, Pokharel was happy to share her thoughts.
“Downtown…I think it’s the future of Fargo. Everything is going to be there. I think a lot of younger people are being attracted to Fargo because of the downtown: the environment, the local coffee shops and small lunch places we have. It’s really cozy. And I think we want to ride this wave of being a part of downtown… I think it’s only going to get bigger and bigger from here. So we just want to be a part of something that’s going big.”
Not only are they thrilled to be downtown, but they’re excited to move into one of Fargo’s most well-known buildings.
“[Being in the Black Building], we’re going to be in the center, and a lot of people downtown know our food, so I think we’ll get a lot of support. And we love downtown.”
Everest Café is set to be open the first week of October. Hours will be Mondays – Fridays, 11:00am – 3:00pm.
For those new to Nepalese and/or Indian cuisine, Pokharel says that everything on the café’s menu is a good choice for newcomers. In addition, they have a variety of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options, so everyone is welcome to eat there. “We hope to bring a little adventure for people.”
