Red River Market to kick off second season Saturday July 9th

Fargo – The Red River Market is kicking off its second season with nearly 50 vendors, offering locally sourced produce, breads, meats, eggs, flowers, coffee, household goods, handmade crafts, and ready to eat foods. In order to accommodate 30 new vendors, the market has moved two blocks north to Broadway & 4th Ave N in the parking lot surrounding the former Schumacher Goodyear building (409 Broadway N).

Last year, over 20,000 visitors filled the streets of downtown Fargo over the course of the market’s first season and organizers expect that number to double this year. New Market Manager, Katie Preston, attributes this to the robust lineup of vendors and special events. “What I’m most excited about this year for the Red River Market is the variety of vendors and programming that we have this season. Not only can you purchase your weekly produce, but you could also buy gift for a friend, watch a cooking demonstration, and grab lunch on your way out.”

The Red River Market has partnered with local organizations to fulfill their mission of making fresh and local food accessible to all. MATBUS will provide free bus rides to and from the market to all riders with a printed pass. Passes are available on the Red River Market and MATBUS websites.

Users on SNAP food assistance (formerly referred to as food stamps) will receive twice the value in eligible foods at the market. When SNAP users swipe their cards for tokens at the market info booth, they will receive a dollar for dollar match up to $10, making $10 worth $20. This program is made possible through a grant from Cass Clay Alive.

After market day ends, any surplus food from the vendors will be donated to the Great Plains Food Bank and distributed to area organizations by volunteers.
